Play Global in Uganda

Two out of three kids in Uganda live in poverty; their families earn less than $2 per day. This means that food, school, transportation and housing are major struggles in their lives. Kids who deal with instability in their daily lives find strength in baseball. It gives them the chance to belong to a team, as well as a way to learn self-confidence, discipline and respect. It gives them hope.

Play Global has partnered with the Uganda Baseball and Softball Association to support baseball in Uganda.
Our work includes:
  • Donating five batting cages to Ugandan baseball fields. All cages were shipped to Uganda and built with local materials and labor.
  • Sending coaches to Uganda in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
  • Training new coaches and school teachers who want to include baseball in their curriculum.
  • Mentoring 20 coaches on a long-term basis, using internet and social media, through our 18-month coach education program
Why Uganda? Why baseball? See and hear it for yourself in Tugende Baseballer, a wonderful video by Canadian videographer Hubert Kang.

Play Global in India

Play Global partnered with local organization Grand Slam Baseball to train their staff to be positive leaders and great baseball coaches.

Grand Slam Baseball is a grassroots organization that aims to grow the game of baseball in India. GSB runs New Delhi Little League and other league for youth and adults. GSB built India's first professional-sized baseball field, which opened in February 2017.

February 2017 clinic
Coaches Andy Berglund and Zach Graefser traveled to New Delhi in February to work with a small group of Grand Slam Baseball coaches. They love coaching but had received little formal training in baseball. Zach and Andy emphasized safety, practice planning and positive coaching methods to use with young players.
